All your answers in one place
We’ve gathered answers to common questions about the move-out process to help make your departure as smooth and stress-free as possible.
If there’s anything we haven’t covered, feel free to reach out – we are here to help!
1. What time do I need to check out?
Check-out is required before or by 10am on your contract end date. Make sure to have all your belongings out of the room and return your access card by this time.
2. Can I leave before my contract end date?
Yes, if you need to leave before the contract end date, please inform the front desk so we can prepare the necessary steps for your departure. We’ll arrange to disable your access card and check you out of the property.
Please note that you are responsible for payment of your rent until the end of your contract even if you are departing earlier.
3. How do I return my access card?
If you’re leaving during office hours, you can return your access card directly to front desk. If you’re leaving outside of office hours, you can leave the access card in your room on the desk and remember to notify us by email.
4. What happens during the departure inspection?
We conduct a departure inspection after you leave to assess the cleanliness and condition of your room. If any cleaning or damage is identified, additional fees may be charged.
5. How clean does my room need to be?
Your apartment needs to be professionally cleaned at the end of your lease, just as it was prior to your arrival. You can opt for Iglu to complete the cleaning for you (charges apply), or you can organise the professional cleaning yourself.
6. What do I do with items I don’t want to take with me?
You can donate gently used items to local charities or fellow residents—just bring them to front desk. Larger items or rubbish should be disposed of in the waste room or skip bins provided. Please don’t leave unwanted items in common areas, as disposal fees may apply.
7. How do I get my bond refund?
Once the departure inspection has been completed by Iglu, you will receive an email with a link from the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA). You will need to click and confirm the bond refund details. Once confirmed you will receive your bond refund into your nominated Australian Bank Account, otherwise you will receive a cheque from the RTBA to your overseas postal address.
8. When will I receive my bond refund?
Bond refunds are typically processed within 2-4 weeks after your lease end date, once the final inspection is complete and any outstanding fees are settled.
9. Can I update my forwarding address for mail?
Yes, make sure to collect any remaining mail or parcels from the front desk before you leave, and update your forwarding address to ensure your mail reaches you after you move out.
10. What if I need to access the property after checking out?
Once you’ve checked out and returned your access card and had your mobile key disabled, you will no longer have access to the property. If you need special arrangements, please speak with the front desk before your departure.
11. Do I need to leave behind any items provided by Iglu?
Yes, please leave behind any appliances or items that were provided to you at the beginning of your stay, such as toasters or kettles, as these belong to the property. The mattress protector is yours to keep. If you want to throw it out, please bring it to the front desk and don’t throw it down the chute.
